On
Friday, March 30th at 9PM the Inter-Media Art Center in
Huntington, Long Island will host an evening of traditional
African drumming and dance with OLATUNJI AND HIS DRUMS OF
PASSION.
OLATUNJIs
music is a profound celebration of African life, with songs
that herald the many personal and social events central to all
cultures. His
troupe, Drums of Passion, express these images with a vitality
and force that is the benchmark by which all great African
performers today must be measured.
They
utilize a variety of traditional African instruments and
authentic costumes in their brilliant shows.
The
songs come from all parts of Africa, including a harvest song
from Olatunjis homeland, Nigeria, a rain celebration from
Zaire, and others from Liberia, Senegal, and the Congo.
The great dancers in Olatunjis
troupe imitate the movements of many different living
creatures, as well as pure expressions of the human spirit.
Tickets for
this performance are $30.00 general public ($22.50 for IMAC
Members) and can be obtained by calling IMAC's 24-hour
Arts-Line at (631) 549-ARTS. Tickets can also be purchased
at the theater from noon to 6PM, Tuesdays to Fridays, and
