On Friday, October 17th, 2003 at 8PM & 10:30PM, the Inter-Media Art Center (IMAC) in Huntington, Long Island will present a concert with rock/jazz bassist STANLEY CLARKE and rock/jazz violinist JEAN-LUC PONTY.

Composer, arranger, producer, bandleader and scorer of films, Stanley Clarke is one of the most celebrated bass players in the world. In nearly twenty-six years in the business, Clarke has received virtually every honor that can be bestowed a musician, including a Grammy Award, seven Grammy nominations, three Emmy nominations, Playboy’s Jazz Bassist of the Year for 10 consecutive years and Guitar Player’s Gallery of the Greats. Clarke has a reputation for applying his talents to a diverse range of projects and incorporating an unexpected versatility to the instrument that brought him to prominence.

Born in a family of classical musicians, JEAN-LUC PONTY began his musical education at the age of five and graduated with honor from the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris at the age of seventeen. He began what was supposed to be a distinguished career as a classical violinist with the Concerts Lemoureus Symphony Orchestra and, during this period, began to listen to jazz, which changed the course of his career forever. JEAN-LUC PONTY began playing with jazz groups in Paris quickly developing a reputation for his revolutionary style of combining his classical virtuosity with his powerful approach. He recorded a number of albums that were met with increasing critical success and brought him to the attention of a lot of artists who wanted his signature violin in their own projects, among them were Elton John, Frank Zappa and John McLaughlin. Through his bold experimentation with electronics and synthesis, JEAN-LUC PONTY liberated the image and capabilities of the violin from a purely acoustic, largely classical or folk setting.

In a unique experience, both Stanley Clarke and Jean-Luc Ponty will have their bands with them, culminating in a giant group jam session. IMAC is thrilled to welcome back both talented artists back to our stage.

Tickets for this performance are $45.00 ($34.00 for IMAC Members). For tickets or further information on this performance, or on other IMAC programs, call IMAC's 24-hour Arts-Line at (631) 549-ARTS.
