On Friday, March
17th, 2006 at 8 & 10:30PM, the Inter-Media
Art Center (also known as “IMAC”) in Huntington,
Long Island will present a blues concert with The
LARRY CARLTON Blues Band featuring guitarist Robben
Ford.
Guitarist LARRY CARLTON may be best known for the time he
spent as a member of both Steely Dan (Rolling Stone lists
Carlton’s work on Kid Charlemagne as one of the three
best guitar licks in rock music history) and the Crusaders,
with whom he recorded 13 albums. Or he may be best known
for his two Grammy winning works - the theme to Hill Street
Blues and his 1987 release, Minute by Minute. But then again
he may be best known as the quintessential session man for
the contribution of his unmistakable sound to over 100 gold
albums by artists like Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Sammy Davis,
Jr., Jerry Garcia, Michael Jackson and more than 70 others.
Or it may be his producing, arranging, film scores or television
work that is most familiar. Or his 19 solo albums, his seven
Grammy nominations or his stints on numerous “Best
…” lists. But whatever facet of this brilliant
artist’s work that has caught your attention in the
past, seeing him live is where he shines the brightest!
Growing up in the 1960’s, a teenaged Robben Ford
spent countless hours listening to artists like Aretha and
Otis, at the same time soaking in guitar blues from Mike
Bloomfield, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King. But soon, Ford
experienced a diversion from the genre. In 1974, the guitarist
was discovered by saxophonist Tom Scott, whose progressive
fusion group, L.A. Express, then teamed up with Joni Mitchell.
Today, possessing a resume that includes stints with an
impressively broad range of other musical personalities-
Miles Davis, George Harrison, Little Feat, and the Yellowjackets,
among many others- Ford has demonstrated an uncanny adaptability
similar to that of the compromising his exquisite, blues-based
playing and singing.
Tickets for this performance are $37.50 ($28.50 for IMAC
